Philip C. Vos, Former Pastor
February 15, 1943 - February 1, 2008
 

     Pastor Philip C. Vos, 64, of Hickory, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 1, 2008 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, after a 20 month struggle with leukemia. Born in Indianapolis, IN on February 15, 1943, he was the son of the late Robert G. and Rosemary Gladden Gosnell.

    Pastor Vos served as the pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Hickory for the last sixteen years, was President of Tabernacle Christian School, on the board at Ambassador Baptist College in Lattimore, NC, was Vice-President of H.O.P.E. Ministries International, and on the advisory board at Baptist International Missions Inc. in Chattanooga, TN. He served as a former pastor of Cromwell Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN (1980-1986) and also of Bible Baptist Church in New Bloomfield, PA (1986-1991). Pastor Vos received his Bachelor of Bible Degree from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, TN in 1978 and was very involved in missions around the world. He also served in the US Air Force as a staff sergeant from 1961-1968.

     In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Alex Parent (twin to Andrew). Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Emma Lee Crawford Vos of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine Newlin and husband Daniel of Newton, Cassandra Schmidt and husband Scott of Hickory, Michelle Parent and husband Dennis of Mauldin, SC; nine grandchildren, Emily Newlin (19) at Pensacola Christian College in FL, Hannah Newlin (16), Madilyn Schmidt (11), Philip Schmidt (10), Spencer Schmidt (7), twins Emma and Hunter Schmidt (2), Andrew Parent (9) and Katelyn Parent (8); sister and brother-in-law, Jeanenne Holcomb and husband Jerald of Rural Hall, NC; brother and sister-in-law, Paul Gosnell and wife Sharon of Greensburg, IN; uncle and aunt, Paul and June Vos of Indianapolis, IN; and a number of nieces and nephews.
